Jacqueline P. Hudson, PhD

I hold a doctorate in American Culture Studies from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH, and am an emerging museum professional. I look for innovative ways to tell under-told stories of the past from underrepresented communities — to understand the present in order to inspire future generations. I want to amplify voices from people of color in my work in the museum field. At the same time, I want to pursue the initiative that cultural institutions should practice activism and advocacy by using their resources to stimulate ideas and create dialogue for its visitors and community members.

I believe that everybody has a story to tell.

Areas of Expertise

My research explores different aspects of American culture with a focus on Black popular culture, Black music studies, Black feminism, and museum studies.

Projects

I look for projects which connect my research interests with my passion for amplifying voices of people of color and exploring under-told histories.  My museum and public history work extend from exhibitions to helping communities memorialize important historic sites.

Education

I hold a PhD from the American Culture Studies program at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), as well as a Graduate Certificate in Public History (BGSU), a Master of Arts in Art, Entertainment and Media Management (Columbia College, Chicago), and a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications: Journalism (Jackson State University).

Experience

My public history and museum work draw on a depth of experience in the music industry including positions at a major record label and a radio conglomerate. I have researched and interpreted artist data, composed reports for urban radio promotions, and compiled data for marketing and promotional campaigns. This experience informs my research and ability to communicate complex subjects to diverse audiences.
